The Thar Wanderlust just landed at the Auto Expo 2018, and the custom-built vehicle goes one step above the DayBreak, the wildest Thar customization that Mahindra has ever put together. Well, the Wanderlust edition of the Thar takes the good bits of the Daybreak edition and makes it a lot more practical for everyday use. The off roader does away with the tailgate and adds gullwing-style doors on the sides for easy access to the rear seats. The Thar Wanderlust is a four seater, with the captain seats up front being Sparco units with 5 point seat belts.
The custom vehicle is done up in a electric blue matte paint shade that makes it stand out, and the body is extensively modified. The 33 inch tyres on negative offset steel wheels get custom fenders at the front and the rear, a sculpted hood and a new front grille.
The bumpers at the front and rear are also new items, and there’s a winch that sits on the front bumper. The custom off roader features a hard top with marker lights, top-mounted wing mirrors, and features twin exhausts poking out of either end. Mechanically, the Thar Wanderlust is unchanged. It retains the 2.5 liter CRDe turbo diesel engine with 105 Bhp of peak power and 247 Nm of peak torque. The engine is paired with a 5 speed manual gearbox, that drives the rear wheels in two wheel drive mode.
The interior of the Mahindra Wanderlust is similar to the standard version of the SUV except for some updates such as the dual-tone dashboard and steering wheel finished in beige as opposed to the black colour of the regular model. The cabin also sports four seats with Sparco front seats, sunroof and touchscreen infotainment system.
In four wheel drive mode, all four wheels get torque, and the rear axle also features a mechanical locking differential from Eaton that works automatically by torque sensing. The transfer case gets low and high ratios. Mahindra is yet to disclose prices of the custom job, and whether it’s customization department would start delivering a similar spec to customers.
